The reality

93% of All Web Pages Get Zero Traffic From Google

According to Ahrefs’ study of over a billion pages, 90.63% of pages get zero organic search traffic. You are not alone — and it is almost never because Google “doesn’t like” your website. It is almost always one of 12 fixable problems.

We have audited hundreds of websites for Indian and UAE businesses at Media Mosiac. The same issues come up again and again. Here they are — with the exact fix for each.

12 reasons

Why Your Website Is Not Ranking — And How to Fix It

Reason 01
Your website is too new
Google takes 3–6 months to properly evaluate and rank a new website. This is called the “Google Sandbox.” If your site is less than 6 months old, this is likely the primary reason. There is no shortcut — but you can speed it up.
✅ Fix
Publish fresh content every week. Get your first backlinks from local directories (JustDial, IndiaMART, Google Business Profile). Submit your sitemap to Google Search Console immediately.

Reason 02
Google hasn’t indexed your pages yet
If Google hasn’t crawled and indexed your pages, they simply cannot rank. You can check this by searching site:yourwebsite.com on Google. If no pages appear, you have an indexing problem.
✅ Fix
Go to Google Search Console → URL Inspection → paste your page URL → click “Request Indexing.” Also verify that your robots.txt is not accidentally blocking Google (check yourwebsite.com/robots.txt).

Reason 03
You are targeting keywords that are too competitive
If you just launched a digital marketing agency and are targeting “digital marketing” — you are competing against HubSpot, Neil Patel, and Wikipedia. You will not win this fight with a new website. New sites must start with long-tail, specific keywords.
✅ Fix
Target location-specific and niche keywords first: “digital marketing agency in Srinagar,” “SEO services for small businesses Delhi,” “WhatsApp marketing for restaurants India.” These have lower competition and higher conversion rates.

Reason 04
Your content doesn’t match search intent
Google’s #1 job is to give the searcher exactly what they are looking for. If someone searches “digital marketing agency” they want to see agency service pages — not a blog post about what digital marketing is. Wrong content format = no ranking.
✅ Fix
Before writing any page, Google your target keyword and look at the top 5 results. Are they blog posts, service pages, product pages, or tools? Match that format. Google is showing you exactly what it wants to rank for that query.

Reason 05
Your website loads too slowly
Google uses Core Web Vitals as a ranking factor. If your site takes more than 3 seconds to load on mobile, Google will deprioritise it in rankings. In India, where most users are on mobile connections, page speed is especially critical.
✅ Fix
Test your site at pagespeed.web.dev. Common fixes: compress images (use WebP format), enable caching (LiteSpeed Cache plugin), use a CDN, remove unused plugins, and switch to faster hosting if needed.

Reason 06
You have no backlinks
Backlinks (other websites linking to yours) are one of Google’s strongest ranking signals. A website with no backlinks is like a business with no word-of-mouth — Google has no reason to trust or rank it above established competitors.
✅ Fix
Start with free, easy backlinks: Google Business Profile, JustDial, Sulekha, IndiaMART, your local chamber of commerce website, guest posts on industry blogs, and getting listed on directories relevant to your niche.

Reason 07
Your on-page SEO is missing or wrong
Missing title tags, no meta descriptions, no H1/H2 headings, images without alt text — these are basic signals Google needs to understand what your page is about. Many WordPress sites have these misconfigured without the owner knowing.
✅ Fix
Install Yoast SEO (free) and follow its recommendations for every page. Every page must have: a unique title tag (50–60 chars), a meta description (150–160 chars), one H1 heading with the keyword, and at least one internal link.

Reason 08
Your website has thin or duplicate content
Pages with fewer than 300 words, pages that copy content from other websites, or multiple pages targeting the same keyword — Google penalises all of these. Thin content is one of the most common issues on Indian business websites.
✅ Fix
Every service page should have at minimum 600–800 words of original, helpful content. Never copy from competitors. Add your own experience, case studies, specific local details, and real client results.

Reason 09
You have a manual penalty from Google
If your site was previously engaged in black-hat SEO (bought links, keyword stuffing, hidden text), Google may have issued a manual penalty. This is rare for new sites but common for sites that used cheap SEO services.
✅ Fix
Check Google Search Console → Security & Manual Actions → Manual Actions. If a penalty exists, fix the underlying issue and submit a reconsideration request. This takes weeks to months to resolve.

Reason 10
Your website is not mobile-friendly
Google uses mobile-first indexing — it ranks your website based on how it performs on mobile, not desktop. In India, 78%+ of web traffic is mobile. A non-mobile-friendly site will simply not rank in 2026.
✅ Fix
Test at search.google.com/test/mobile-friendly. If your site fails, switch to a responsive WordPress theme (Hello Elementor, Astra, or GeneratePress are all free and mobile-optimised).

Reason 11
You are not consistent with content publishing
Google rewards websites that regularly publish fresh, relevant content. If your last blog post was 8 months ago and your competitors are publishing weekly, Google sees your site as less active and relevant.
✅ Fix
Commit to publishing at minimum 2 blog posts per month. They don’t need to be long — 600–800 words of genuinely helpful content is more valuable than an infrequent 3,000-word post. Consistency beats volume.

Reason 12
Your Google Business Profile is not set up or optimised
For local businesses in India — restaurants, clinics, agencies, shops — Google Business Profile (GBP) is often the most important ranking factor. If your GBP is incomplete or unclaimed, you are invisible in Google Maps and local search results.
✅ Fix
Claim your GBP at business.google.com. Fill every field: business name, category, address, phone, website, hours, photos (minimum 10), and services. Ask your first 10 customers for Google reviews. This alone can put you on the first page within 4–6 weeks for local searches.
